It is better to spend
more time in the classroom studying than in the school health center or clinic
as the case may be. If you must achieve all set goals and aims in campus as
student, then you must avoid these common health mistakes.
Pulling all-nighters
Most students have the notion that the only way
they can study is by pulling all nighters. Again, you’ll be doing yourself more
harm than good if you skip sleep. Not getting enough sleep increases your risk
of depression, makes you more likely to make errors in your work, impairs your
concentration, and slows your reaction time. Sleep deprivation also weakens
your immune system, causing you to be more vulnerable to illnesses.
It is better to improve your sleeping habits by
keeping a regular bedtime and waking schedule. Avoid eating a bulky meal close
to bedtime. Get into bright light shortly after waking up to help signal your
brain that it’s time to wake up. A good night sleep will help you concentrate
better in class.
Indulging in Reckless behavior
While on campus several young students indulge in
excessive drinking, drug use and irresponsible sex. More than 40 percent of
student in campus meet the criteria for alcohol abuse. Drug abuse is not only risk to campus
student, but can get expel out of school and arrested. On the other
irresponsible sex can lead to unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted
diseases (STDs). Studies have shown that: Half of the 19 million new cases of
STDs reported each year infect people between the ages of 15 and 25, according
to a study.
It wise to note that: “You don’t have anybody
looking over your shoulder while on campus”. Hence, you have to employ your own
instincts on how to take care of yourself and handle problems before they gets
out of hand.
Stressing out
When stressed, you are more indecisive, your
ability to concentrate is weakened, and you are more easily exhausted.
Excessive stress also makes you more susceptible to illnesses. It is important to
plan your schedule each day, if you are the type that have classes’ everyday to
attend and still want to get involve with some part-time job. It is possible to
develop strategies on how to cope with stress since you may not be able to
avoid it.
It’s better to take a break, then take a deep
breath and try to relax. Devote time for exercise because it helps relieves
stress. Work at completing the most important items on your To do list each day.
Don’t worry if you don’t get to the others until the next day. Be realistic in
your expectations.
